One of the most important characters in the story is Misa. Though she was not as smart as Light, L, and many of the others, she playeda pivotal role as the Second Kira, who possessed the Shinigami Eyes. As a result, the story would have been very different if she was not in it.
A lot of information was revealed about her inDeath Note 13: How to Readthat fans may not know. Unless stated otherwise, these upcoming details were shared in interviews and notes included in this guide.
10 Birth & Death
Misa was born on December 25, 1984. Though she was once supposed to live a much longer life, she decreased her remaining lifespan by half in order to have the power of the Shinigami Eyes. She actually made the deal twice, decreasing her lifespan to a quarter of what it once was.

Misa passed away on February 14, 2011. Though he never put it into the story itself, Tsugumi Ohba, the writer of the series, has said that she got depressed after Light died andkilled herself. She was born on Christmas and died on Valentine's Day.
9 Inspired By Gothic Lolita
Misa's design was heavily inspired by the gothic style of Lolita fashion, which fit in very well withDeath Note's themes. As her character developed through time, however, her appearance also changed and by the end of the series, Misa didn't keep the same style she once had.
Takeshi Obata, the artist of the series, looked through fashion magazines as inspiration for Misa, as well as some of the other characters.

8 Censored In Magazine
Chapter 33 of the manga, "Removal," was censored in the magazine release due to Misa being blindfolded and tied up. Having evidence that she was the Second Kira,L kidnapped her and held her as his hostage in order to try to find out information about Kira.
Obata tried to make the scene appropriate for the audience but it was still considered too graphic, causing one of the images to be censored. The image was uncensored in Volume 4.
7 The Meaning Behind Her Name
Though he is not certain, Ohba stated that he thinks he got Misa's name from the word "kuromisa," which means "Black Mass" in Japanese. Misa's last name is Amane, which means "Sound of the Heavens."

This name fits Misa very well due to her sense of fashion, being the Second Kira, and the fact that Misa is the only character that sang in the anime. A lot of fans enjoyed her song and her beautiful voice must have come from the Heavens.
6 The Artist Considers Her The Hardest Character To Make
Obata considers Misa to be the hardest character to create in the manga. He said that he found it difficult to get in the mindset of a person who would do absolutely anything for the person they love.Obatafelt thatMisa would take control while he wrotefor the character.

5 Her Family
The reason why Misa wanted to meet Kira so badly was that he killed her parents' murderer. The killer broke into their house and murdered Misa's mother and father in front of her. As time went by, the trial kept getting delayed, until Light killed him.
Misa wanted him to die so badly that she devoted her life to Light. Though many fans know about Misa's tragic backstory, many have forgotten that Misa also had a sister, who was briefly mentioned in Chapter 46. Fans have given her the name "Asa Amane."

Misa has come a long way since the original manga. In earlier adaptations, Misa was mostly used as fan service. However, she has evolved into a three-dimensional character and a strong woman. In the musical, her feelings for Light seem real and her love for him isn't a joke like how it was in the manga.
In the Netflix film, Misa was involved in the Kira killings a lot more and went behind Light's back to get what she wanted. Her occupation has also changed. In the musical and live-action drama, she is a musician rather than a model.
3 She Is Religious
Death Noteis full of religious references. From actions and poses that the characters make toKira's followers worshipping him, there is symbolism in just about everything.Besides her gothic sense of style, Misa also wears a Rosary.

As a Kira supporter, she believes that Light is God so it makes sense that she would do anything for him even if he hadn't avenged her parents. As Light desperately wanted to be a God, he was glad to use her in any way he wanted. Perhaps she should not have put faith in a man that used her and killed thousands of people.
2 Eye Color
Misa was introduced with the Shinigami Eyes, which changed her eye color to red whenever she wanted to see someone's name and how long they had until they would die. However, her Shinigami Eyes are not the only cause of her eyes changing color.
Misa can also be seen with brown and blue eyes. Many fans believe that she used contacts to change eye color for her jobs as a model and actress. It may have also been a mistake in the production of the series.

1 She Was The Only Person That Really Liked Matsuda
Despite beinga ruthless killer with a lack of empathy for anyone besides her and Light, Misa was also one of the few people that actually showed Matsuda kindness. She really liked having him as her manager and was disappointed when Mogi had to replace him when he was forced to fake his death.
Misa made the most out of it but was sad to see her biggest fan leave. Most of the characters, such as Light and L, considered Matsuda to be an idiot. Even the othermembers of the Task Force have not always shown him as much kindness as Misa had. Matsuda and Misa's optimistic and childish personalities made them unexpected friends. Perhaps she was kinder than most give her credit for.
