Draper 6-3 1-0 Machac*
Oh that's lovely.
There's a hint of swagger in the step of Jack Draper as he seals the first game of the second set with the second sneaky drop shot in the game.
The 22-year-old is trying to make a first Grand Slam quarter-final and looks to be loving every minute.

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC SoundsIt was surprising because I was expecting Tomas Machac to be a wall at the back of the court and just not to break down. We saw that in the early stages and thought this was going to be rough ride for Jack Draper.
Then it all disappeared. At 3-3, Machac suddenly threw in some unforced errors and double faults and he just looked uncomfortable out there. Draper was by far the better player in that first set.

Wild from Tomas Machac! The Czech player came out flying early on but it is Jack Draper who wraps up the set with minimal fuss - capitalising on his opponent's errors.
There's little emotion on show as the Briton marches to his chair.
It's part one of the job done.

Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC SoundsA lot of uncharacteristic errors from Tomas Machac. I think he's just starting to feel the pressure coming down from the other side.
It was him who was making Draper run from side to side, into the corners in the first few games but now it's Jack Draper who is taking the initiative a lot more.

After one of those chances slips away, Draper winds up for a big forehand but pulls the ball into the tramlines.
It's still deuce...

Ralph has made a good suggestion but Maddison is not who I was thinking of.
Jack Draper, meanwhile, is serving really well. It steers him away from a hint of danger here to increase his advantage.

Jit: Jack has done well to stay on the court as less as possible during week 1, but this heat will take its toll when the rallies get longer and match goes deeper. Crucial for Jack to be aggressive

BBC SportInteresting to hear Jack Draper reinforce at the coin toss that he wants access to ice towels quickly at the changeovers.
The Brit has struggled in the heat at times, most recently at the recent Paris 2024 Olympics where he complained he wasn't able to get cold water in the breathers.
He almost sat in the cool box at one stage.
The humidity in New York has dropped today but the heat remains with temperatures set to hit the high 20s. No shade on Armstrong today either.
Draper is one of us. Usually us Brits are cowering under the sun brolly, interspersed with taking a dip in the pool, in these conditions.

Draper 2-2 Machac*
Tomas Machac is lurking so deep at the back of the court to return Jack Draper's serve that he's nearly out of camera shot.
The British leftie finds his serving groove to power away three aces in this far more comfortable service game.
All you British fans can sit a lot more comfortably after seeing that.

Harriet Dart and Diane Parry were an unseeded team in this year's women's doubles draw. In the second round, they knocked out Olympic champions Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini who were the sixth seeds.
Today in the third round, they faced tenth seeds Hao-Ching Chan of Chinese Taipei and Russian Veronika Kudermetova but couldn't pull off a similar upset.
Chan and Kudermetova are through to the quarter-finals with a 6-4 6-4 win over the British-French duo.

Tomas Machac really looks like someone but I can't put my finger on who.
Regardless, the Czech bangs a smash into the open court to seal this latest game and continue his confident start.
