I was recently featured in a Reader's Digest article on the best deals from the dollar store so I thought I would go ahead and write this guide for my blog.
I wen't to my local dollar general store today and was pleasantly surprised to see a wide range of good quality probiotic supplements.
The price's were good and if you hate waiting for something to be delivered or paying for shipping then heading to your local dollar general to pick up some probiotic's is a good option.
In this guide I will be taking a look at what dollar general has to offer.

Out of all of the probiotic supplements VitaValue were my favorite. They are awesome!
They are only $5.00 for 30 capsules which will last 1 month.
As far as I am aware VitaValue Probiotic's cannot be bought online and are only available at Dollar General in store. They also have no official website.
They contain a 3 billion colony forming unit count which isn't too powerful for most people but just strong enough to give good results.
I first included Align Dualbiotic gummies in my best probiotic gummies guide last year.
I was impressed with the Align brand owned by Procter & Gamble and felt they had a good line of high quality probiotic supplements.
You can pick up their fruit flavored gummies in Dollar General for $19.95. They have only 1g of sugar and contain Prebiotic fiber which is crucial for probiotic bacteria to thrive in the gut.
The gummies contain the Bacillus Coagulans strain but there is no mention of the CFU count.
I haven't ever heard of Rexall probiotic capsules before but the company has been around since 1903 and I was impressed with what they had too offer.
For just $4.50 you can get a 100 Million CFU count of the Lactobacillus Acidophilus probiotic strain which may help with vagin*l health.
These capsules are also gluten free, sugar free, dairy-free and contain no artificial colors.
These capsules are not multi-strain and are not that strong but they are perfect for those new to probiotics.
Feeding baby's probiotic's is becoming more popular these days. Gerber claim feeding your baby probiotics may "promote digestive health if eaten daily".
This delicious rice cereal contains the Bifidobacterium Lactis strain. The CFU count is unknown.
This cereal also contains Iron, Vitamin D, Calcium, Potassium, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12 and Zinc.
The focus doesn't seem to be only on being a probiotic supplement for babies.
Just like with Align, I also included Digestive Advantage in my probiotic gummies guide of 2022 and wrote a review.
These gummies are slightly cheaper at $13.00 from Dollar General and you also get 60 gummies.
They contain the Bacillus Coagulans BC30 strain which can withstand extreme conditions.
Each gummy has 250 Million live cells and they are gluten free.
I could not find any information on if they contain Prebiotic fiber but they do taste great.
These capsules contain 30mg of Bacillus Coagulans and 20 tablets can be bought from Dollar General for $3.00 which will last you just under 1 month.
They work by placing a capsule in your drink which is perfect for people who hate swallowing chunky capsules.
They contain Vitamin C and the cranberry taste is quite authentic and natural.
Just because I have featured Phillip's colon health probiotic last does not mean it's the worst. I was actually super impressed with this supplement.
It contains Lactobacillus Gasseri, Bifidobacterium Bifidum and Bifidibacterium Longum all for $13.00. Technically it is a multi-strain probiotic supplement. The CFU count is said to be 1.75 billion per capsule.
It is free of GMO's, Gluten, Dairy and Soy.
Dollar General 101
In 2021 Dollar General were said to have 17,266 physical stores across the USA which was an increase from16,278 in 2019.
Dollar General was founded in 1939 in Scottsville, Kentucky by James Luther Turner and his son Cal. They are an exclusive retailer of the Rexall brand (featured in this guide) and they expanded the Rexall supplement brand in 2010.
As you will have already noticed, none of their probiotic supplements are $1 despite the brand name. Their probiotic supplements like VitaValue and Rexall are however incredible value for money.
Dollar General Probiotic Benefits
The benefits from Probiotic supplements first depend on the probiotic strains used in the supplement. Most Dollar General probiotics contain the Bacillus Coagulans strain. According to Healthline Bacillus Coagulans may have benefits for IBS, Rheumatoid arthritis, Constipation and Gas but not everyone will experience these benefits.
Final Thoughts
You can definitely find some great probiotic offerings at Dollar General and avoid hefty shipping charges and a potential long wait time.
The reason so many of these supplements only contain Bacillus Coagulans in my opinion is because it is so cost effective. It's cheap to produce, has a long shelf life and can be stored in hot humid conditions.
I was quite impressed to see some multi-strain probiotic's from Dollar General and If I was to offer any advice I would say choose them for the best results. Costco is another retailer that has a diverse range of probiotic supplements.
